Armfield Academy

Dear local resident,

Welcome to our second news update to local residents of our progress in developing the new FCAT academy.

Since the first newsletter/update we have been extremely busy initiating a period of consultation that included suggestions for a new academy name.  After a three-week period (ending on Friday 3 February) that was widely promoted in local media, the FCAT Board decided to re-name the new academy as Armfield Academy.  85% of a total 446 on-line questionnaire respondents stated that their preferred choice of name would be Armfield Academy; as a result of Jimmy’s significant contribution to the communities of Blackpool. During May 2017 we will roll-out the consultation period inviting local residents, local primary schools and nurseries, local industry/business leaders, local politicians to scheduled meetings at South Shore and St. Annes locations.  At these meetings we will be able to see large drawings of the planned school design and for team members to explain the processes and procedures envisaged.

Two weeks ago ‘CONLONS’ (based in Preston) were selected as the main contractor and they are extremely keen to work with FCAT in establishing positive relations with our local community around the site and South Shore/St. Annes generally.  Over the coming weeks and months there will be a steady increase in activity on site. This will commence with a 10-week ‘Feasibility Process’ where numerous meetings will take place between the main contractor, the client (FCAT), Education Funding Agency Advisors and all the structural engineering and design teams; so that a suitable school design can be delivered within an appropriate cost plan.

Please keep in touch with us through the electronic contact enquiry form found on www.fcat.org.uk and clicking ‘Armfield Academy’.  Similarly, in due course, information regarding the scheduled meeting dates at South Shore/St. Annes locations will be posted under ‘Armfield Academy’.

With kind regards,

John Topping – FCAT Community Relations and Estates Lead

** The Avenue Academy UPDATE **

Thank you to everyone who has posted a comment on The Avenue Academy contact form page.  We now have in excess of 70 comments with most contributors thrilled that the former Arnold site is to be developed as a 2-16 ‘through-school’ by the Fylde Coast Academy Trust in partnership with the Education Funding Agency.  Many comments offered suggestions for suitable names for the new school based on geographical location, famous former pupils, ex-headteachers and founders.  We are delighted with ‘The Avenue’ and have very recently mounted three notice boards at key locations to inform our local community of the chosen name and the site having being acquired by the EFA for FCAT to develop a 2-16 through school in time for a September 2018 opening.

Already some areas of the site have been tidied up with the playing fields receiving some pre-winter maintenance and the grass cut.
